Paper Trails: Managing Paperwork as part of a
Comprehensive Classroom Management Plan

Between NCLB, ADA, IDEA and a host of other acronyms and abbreviations, the life of a teacher is replete with paperwork and forms. At one time there may have been only the attendance sheet and a report card with an occasional note home to the parents but today, teachers are inundated with mandates to report on a host of pertinent information. Though often looked on as a burden, the reality is tracking this information has become a rather large part of classroom management plans. Having raw data allows us to objectively evaluate our effectiveness as teachers as well as the effectiveness of various programs and processes. Finding appropriate times to complete this paperwork is not easy but I understand the importance of the data. Data-Driven Instruction has proven to be an effective means of planning curriculum and instruction based on student outcomes. With more accurate data, I can better assess and plan for my students' needs. If my students' academic and instructional needs are being met, my students will be less frustrated and more engaged in meaningful learning.

Here is a form to complete a Functional Behavioral Assessment if needed.

Bottom line: When students' achievements and goals are properly recorded and analyzed, the students receive targeted instruction that more adequately meets their needs. That is why managing requisite paperwork is key to my Comprehensive Classroom Management Plan.
