The environment and what we people do to make it better or worse.
Science experiments: can we get different results by changing some of the details? Like putting more water on the pile or putting less leaves maybe?
Math in abundance: Keeping track of the compost temperature or weigh the amount of stuff we put into a pile, figuring out how big a container we need, or counting how many days until it can be used as fertilizer.
Composting is one way of recycling, but it is also an important way we can see the continuing cycle of the living world and the transfer of energy from one living being to another.
But we are not just passive observers, are we?
